The Essential Hoof Book: The Complete Modern Guide to Horse Feet
Authors: Susan Kauffmann and Christina Cline
About: Just released in 2017, the “Essential Hoof” is an easy to understand guide to hoof anatomy, function, assessment of hoof health, balance, disease diagnosis and treatment, and what it takes to create a healthy hoof. It is laid out in a clear concise way with lots of great photos and illustrations making it easily accessible to horse owners, new students of the hoof, as well as professionals looking for a deeper understanding of hoof care. Co-authored by PHCP Mentor, Christina Cline, this book covers some controversial and often confusing subjects such as peripheral loading, high/low syndrome, cracks, long toes/low heels, and abscesses to name a few. Management of these and other commonly seen issues is discussed pragmatically, using the most up to date knowledge and research. This well-written book is easy to read, with a little humour to lighten up the dry material.
Recommendation: This is a must-have for any student of the horse! Purchase this book at the start of your journey into hoof care and refer back to it often.
